Water Heater

While in Dedza hiking a couple weekends ago we stayed at a small hotel that heated their water thus:


It is a simple wood-powered water heater--you can see the in and outflow pipes on the left--that is beautiful in its simplicity. If not for the massive problems associated with deforestation in Malawi, this would be great.

    reminds me of the showers in Brazil. no hot water heaters, but small electric heaters in the shower head itself heated the water as it came out. I received more than one shock from these while bathing...i really appreciate a nice warm shower on a cold morning!

      Yeah, point of use water heating. My aunt and uncle in North Carolina installed one of those systems in their home... probably with a bit tighter regulations than the shockers in Brazil. I like the idea because you spend all the energy heating only water you are using rather than having a big tank that sits there all day not being used just wasting away heating power.
